Many people hate going to the doctor, and they will wait until they absolutely must go before making an appointment. People are often the same way, or worse, with dental visits. While we understand that sometimes it is hard to make taking care of yourself a priority, Prime Dental Care also understands that some issues with your oral health truly cannot wait. A toothache is a major dental concern because most of the time it is a symptom of a greater problem. Ignoring the toothache is allowing the underlying issue to get worse, and to cause further pain and harm to your smile.
It is a mistake to think that a toothache is “just” a tooth with a little discomfort. It is also a mistake to believe that a toothache will go away on its own. Each tooth inside the mouth is an individual living feature. It has its own nerves, its own root system, a direct blood line, and its own life. Yet, each tooth also works with the other teeth inside the mouth to support neighboring teeth and to provide stability to the jaw bone. The intricacies of the mouth are incredibly complex, and when one tooth is compromised, the entire mouth is vulnerable to the same issues.
There are many different causes for toothaches, some of which are minor and some of which are major.
- A piece of food stuck underneath the gum line. This is a very common, mild cause for toothache. Yet, if it is not addressed and the food removed, rot will begin to happen inside the mouth. When rot occurs, a bacterial infection is a common consequence.
- A cracked tooth. This type of concern typically involves feeling pain or discomfort while eating, chewing gum, or applying pressure to the cracked tooth.
- A damaged or injured tooth can occur due to trauma to the face, crunching ice, a cavity that has not been filled. A damaged tooth is often quite painful.
- An infected, decaying, or dying tooth. Any infection or decay that reaches the inner layer of a tooth is extremely painful. This infection will reach the roots and sensitive nerve endings inside the tooth, causing excruciating pain that will refuse to be ignored.
At Prime Dental Care, we are here to meet your dental care concerns quickly, effectively, and with gentle care. Please understand that a toothache is a major dental concern, so you do not need to ignore it.
