Dental Sealants to Protect Your Smile Princeton, NJ

There are few guarantees in life, and some of those guarantees you simply want to avoid as long as possible. Yet, knowing that guarantees do not come often does not keep people from searching for “easy, fail-proof” methods of achieving their goals. While people know that hard work is required for most of what they want, it is still tempting to look for an easy way out. Well, here is some good news: your dentist offers a simple procedure that can help protect your teeth from cavities – without you having to put forth any effort.

Dental sealants are a preventive measure that involves a quick and painless application to the back teeth. Patients of all ages can benefit from dental sealants because this application “seals out” harmful bacteria, sugars, and acids that assault the teeth each day.

The back teeth, the molars and pre-molars, have very rough surfaces with deep grooves and pits. It is inside these grooves and pits that food particles often become trapped. Toothbrushes do a good job of cleaning the surfaces of the teeth, but they are often unable to clean down inside the deep pits. Dental floss is not intended to clean these areas, so the back teeth are often left in constant assault. As food particles, sugars, and bacteria decompose, they create acids that will eat their way through the teeth and cause destructive cavities and decay. This is where the benefit of dental sealants is so profound: they create a protective barrier so that particles cannot become trapped and harm the teeth.

Dental sealants have absolutely no pain associated with them, and they take approximately 2-3 minutes per tooth.

  • After a thorough cleaning, the teeth are completely dried.
  • A plastic coating (sealant) is painted on the tooth.
  • The sealant is hardened with a special curing light.
  • The sealant is now bonded with the tooth.

Dental sealants can last up to four years by avoiding sticky candies. Once in place, dental sealants are at work protecting your teeth. Of course, you still need to floss daily, brush frequently, and visit the dentist! Contact Prime Dental Care to learn more.

My husband has been going to Dr Ma and this practice for many years and swears by them so I thought I would try it out. Very pleasant and professional with a great location and good availability, they respond to queries in a timely way and provide reminders for appointments via text which is great since some practices appear to be in the dark ages on some of the practical stuff. Everyone seems to try to ensure you have a pleasant visit (in spite of being to the dentist!) so kudos to the whole operation. Also, a lot of care has been taken to go above and beyond the requirements of hygiene during this pandemic including state-of-the-art air filtration systems.

Starting from reception to the assistant to the doctors they are so amazing. I have major dental anxiety and they were above and beyond sweet and nice to me. I have come back after a root canal and I can go for a run I feel that good and comfortable with them. They rock! They are awesome- I highly recommend this place
